[Editorial notes: Does anyone else recall the incredibly ridiculous furor over whether or not we should have liked The Tea Party because of Jeff Martin’s resemblance to Jim Morrison and musical similarities to Jimmy Page? I never had time for that junk. First, Morrison was a hottie, and every guy should want to look like the Lizard King did before he bottomed out on the sauce; anyone who criticised Martin for his appearance was simply jealous of his looks. Second, that “he’s cribbing Jimmy Page!” line is a bollocks argument based on insecurity and inferiority. We’ve all seen our friends and neighbours try to play a guitar with a bow. We all want to be Jimmy Page, because Jimmy Page is a god. Just like the Morrison criticism, I say props to Martin to pulling off in this song crazy vibes that normally only Jimmy Page is capable of; anyone who did criticise him, again, was simply jealous. And further, Page has admitted many times before that he wasn’t the first guitarist to pick up the bow, and he certainly isn’t the best guitarist to ever grace the stage, either.]
